Do Moroccan citizens need an Umrah Visa?

Yes, Moroccans who wish to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah must get a visa.

The rituals of Umrah are a beautiful expression of devotion. The Tawaf, or circling the Kaaba, represents the unity of Muslims worldwide, and the Sa'i, or walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa, symbolizes the endurance of Hagar.

The Umrah Visa allows Muslims to visit Mecca and Medina, the two holy cities in Saudi Arabia, to perform the pilgrimage. This Saudi Arabian visa is explicitly issued for Umrah and is different from other types of visas issued for Saudi Arabia, such as work or tourist visas.

As a Moroccan, you can apply for an Umrah Visa online if you meet one of the following conditions:

1. You’re a permanent resident of the USA, the UK, or the EU.

2. You hold a valid visa from the US, the UK, or any country in the Schengen Zone and have used it at least once.

3. You’re a GCC resident and have had your permanent residence visa for at least three months.

If you don't meet any of these conditions, you can use one of the following options:

• Visa through package: Book a package online through an approved service provider or a Moroccan travel agency licensed to book Umrah packages.

• Embassy or consulate: By applying for the visa in person at the nearest Saudi embassy or consulate.

• Transit/stopover visa: You can perform Umrah with a transit/stopover visa, valid for 96 hours once you arrive in Saudi Arabia. You can apply for this visa using the Nusuk app.

Introduction of new Umrah Visa rule in 2024

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has made significant updates to the Umrah Visa rules. Umrah Visas now remain valid for 90 days from the issue date. Previously, the validity of the visa began once you arrived in Saudi Arabia.

In addition, Umrah Visas for pilgrims coming from outside the country will now expire on 15 Dhu al-Qa’dah, corresponding to May 23, 2024, for the current season. The previous expiry date was 29 Dhu al-Qa’dah. This change allows Saudi authorities more time to prepare for the Hajj season, aiming to improve the experience for both Umrah and Hajj pilgrims.

All international pilgrims must leave the country by the new expiry date. There are penalties for overstaying an Umrah Visa, which will be levied on both the pilgrims and the companies that arranged their visas.

How to get a Saudi Umrah Visa from Morocco

Umrah Visa through a travel package

1. Find an approved travel agency in Morocco. Get a list of required documents from them.

2. Prepare all required documents for the application and submit them to the travel agency. The agency will help you submit your application.

3. Wait for your application to be processed. The agency will notify you once your visa is approved.

Umrah Visa through an embassy

1. Contact the Saudi Arabian embassy in Morocco (more details below) and prepare all the required documents for the application.

2. Submit your application at the embassy and pay the visa fees.

3. Wait for your application to be processed. Visit the embassy as instructed to collect your passport. The visa will be affixed to the passport.
