What is the Austria Schengen Visa?
The Austria Schengen Visa is one of the most popular visas to explore the Schengen area without worrying about applying separate visas for each member state.
With this type of Austrian Visa, you can enter the all Schengen states:
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Who requires the Austria Schengen Visa?
Currently, citizens from over 100 countries need to apply for the Austria Schengen Visa.
Several nationalities can enter the Schengen Zone visa-free, such as European residents and nationals of Schengen member states.
Additionally, passport holders from the following countries can visit the Schengen zone without a visa:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Canada
However, most other visitors must meet all the requirements and undergo the interview procedure to obtain a Schengen Visa.
Children and minors also need an Austria Schengen Visa if they are from an eligible country.
How long can I stay in the country with the Austria Schengen Visa?
The Austrian Schengen Visa allows a permitted stay of maximum 90 days per entry within every 180 days.
It's the Austrian Consulate or Embassy that decides if you'll receive a multiple-entry, double-entry, or single-entry visa.
Austrian Schengen Visa requirements and documents
You must gather the following Austrian Visa requirements:

Copy of your passport, issued in the past 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen Area. It must have at least 2 blank pages

Two recent passport photos

Printed and signed application form

Copies of your previous Schengen Visas (if applicable)

Proof that you can pay for your trip, for example, bank statements from the last 3 months

Proof of accommodation in case of an informal visit, for example, a letter of invitation from your friend or family

Proof that you intend to return to your home country, such as a return plane ticket

Minors traveling alone must provide a certified power of attorney signed by their parents or legal guardians

Medical insurance or travel insurance covering hospitalizations, emergencies, urgent medical treatment, and related costs of at least €30,000
How to apply for the Austria Schengen Visa
To apply, follow the instructions from the Austrian Embassy in your home country, and schedule an appointment with the Austrian embassy, consulate, or Visa Application Center.
On the day of your appointment, bring the application form and the rest of the required documents.
Then, all you need to do is wait for your Austria Schengen Visa application to be approved and get ready to travel!
Costs and processing time of the Austria Schengen Visa
There is a government fee of about US$84.85 that must be paid during your appointment (half-price for children between the age of 6 and 12 and free for kids under 6 years old).
Do I need a visa to transit through Austria or another Schengen country?
If you are staying in the international transit zone of the airport, you do not need a Schengen or transit visa, except if you are from any of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Syria.
