In Bangladesh, one of the best attractions to visit when you are in Dinajpur is the gorgeous Kantanagar Temple, also known as Kantaji. Considered religious artwork, it is one of the most impressive Hindu temples in Bangladesh. This marvelous architecture was built in 1752 by Pran Nath, the most notable feature is the surface decoration, with eternal panels of sculpted terracotta plaques depicting both figurative and floral motifs. There is a story you can see in different panels of the Kantanagar Temple. In one panel, you can see a demon swallowing monkeys, in other panels, you can also see, a husband massaging a wife’s leg, a mother brushing her daughter’s hair, there are also some amorous scenes but those are usually placed in obscure corners. These panels are made with an embroidered patchwork of Bangladeshi society, culture, and mythology. This majestic Hindu building was originally crowned with nine ornamental towers, which collapsed because of an earthquake in 1897, and this was never rebuilt. This attraction sits in a courtyard surrounded and protected by a stout wall. Although you can no longer enter inside the inner sanctum, where the Krishna shrine is, this destination is still a beautiful and mystic place to visit. So remember to add to your plans a visit to the Kantanagar Temple when visiting Bangladesh. You will not regret it!
