Belgium entry requirements and restrictions with the ETIAS

Belgium removed its COVID-19 travel restrictions. There is no longer a requirement for proof of vaccination, prior recovery from COVID-19, or a negative test result. However, you must possess good health and the following documents:

  1. A valid passport.

  2. A valid ETIAS or Schengen visa.

Differences between Belgium ETIAS and Schengen Visa

The key difference is that the ETIAS is not a visa; it acts as a streamlined and faster pre-travel security evaluation for visa-exempt individuals planning short visits, typically up to 90 days, for tourism, business, or transit purposes.

A Schengen Visa is an official authorization attached or digitally linked to a traveler's passport, granting entry, stay, or exit from a country for specific purposes such as tourism, work, or education, often entailing a more extensive application and approval process.

Other significant distinctions between these documents include:

  1. Application process: Obtaining an ETIAS is straightforward with an online process while securing a Belgium Schengen visa involves in-person interviews and extensive visa requirements.

  2. Eligibility: ETIAS is designed for travelers from visa-exempt countries, while individuals needing a visa must navigate the intricate Schengen visa application process.

  3. Validity: A valid ETIAS for Belgium provides three years of travel access, whereas a Schengen visa typically spans five years.
