What is the Bhutan eVisa for UK citizens?

The Bhutan Visa for UK citizens is an electronic visa (eVisa) that allows residents of the United Kingdom to enter Bhutan for tourism purposes.

The online visa application system simplifies the process of getting a visa for travel to Bhutan, making it more convenient to explore this picturesque Himalayan destination.

Note that British passport holders can enter or leave Bhutan only through select towns like Phuntsoling, Samdrup Jongkhar, Gelephug (by road), or Paro International Airport (by air).

In the following sections, we will delve into the details of how to apply for the Bhutan eVisa and what you need to know before embarking on your journey to this unique and culturally rich nation.

Do citizens from the United Kingdom need a Bhutan Visa?

Yes, UK citizens do need a Bhutan Visa to enter the country for tourism purposes.

However, as mentioned, Bhutan has recently implemented an electronic visa (eVisa) system, which has made the visa application process more convenient for travelers from the United Kingdom and other eligible countries.

You can now apply 100% online with us from the comfort of your own home, without visiting a Bhutan Embassy or Consulate!

Bhutan Visa fees: Cost of the eVisa for British citizens

The costs of applying for the Bhutan eVisa can be divided into three parts, which we’ll explain below.

Bhutan eVisa: iVisa service fee

We provide three processing options to cater to your specific needs:

  • Standard: Ideal for travelers who have made their travel plans well in advance.

  • Rush: Designed for travelers who require their eVisa expedited.

  • Super Rush: For travelers with urgent eVisa requirements.

To determine the exact processing times and associated iVisa fees, simply begin your application now!

Government Visa fee

There are two different costs associated with government requirements:

  • The Bhutan Visa cost by the government is currently US$40.

  • In addition to the visa fees, travelers are required to pay the daily Sustainable Development Fee (SDF).

This fee is a daily contribution that aids the Tourism Council of Bhutan in safeguarding the nation's culture and environment, supporting infrastructure development, and enhancing resilience.

The SDF is US$200 per person per night. Children under 6 years old are exempt from this fee, while children aged 6 to 12 are charged US$50 per night.

However, there is a 50% discount on the SDF until August 31, 2027, applicable only to travelers who pay in US dollars.

Important: Please note that these fees are not included in our service costs. During your Bhutan Visa application process, we will give you exact instructions on how to directly transfer these fees to the Bhutan government securely.

How long is the Bhutan eVisa valid for UK citizens?

You are allowed to stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days per entry with this visa. If you wish to prolong your visit, you can apply for a visa extension through the Bhutan government website.

It's important to note that this is a Single entry travel document, which means you can use it for one entry into Bhutan only.

What is the Bhutan eVisa processing time?

The exact processing time depends on your individual case and the government's workload. However, it usually takes between 5-10 days to process your Bhutan eVisa.

Facial expression: Maintain a neutral facial expression with both eyes open and looking directly at the camera. Keep your mouth closed and avoid smiling or frowning.

Head position: Your head should be centered within the frame and positioned directly facing the camera. Ensure that your face occupies around 70-80% of the photo.

Head coverings: If you have religious or medical reasons to wear a head covering, it is generally allowed. However, ensure that your face is fully visible from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead and that both sides of it are showing.

Glasses: If you wear eyeglasses, they should not cause glare or reflections that obscure your eyes. They cannot be tinted either.
