As most of the countries are in lockdown and at least 93 percent of the global population now lives in countries with coronavirus-related travel restrictions, Tourism and Travel has become one of the most affected industries by COVID-19. At iVisa we wanted to understand how this context of fear and uncertainty is going to affect the future of travel. We conducted a survey to measure the general travel sentiment of people and are sharing the results.
Future Travel
We learned that travel might have a bright future, as people feel positive towards traveling in the future. Based on our analysis we discovered that almost 75% of people already had a trip planned for 2020 and almost 60% of them would still travel as long as there were no travel restrictions at their home and destination countries.
Did you plan any trip(s) for May - December 2020?
Are you considering giving up traveling between May - December 2020 even if you already booked tickets?
When will travel resume?
When asked about when they would consider traveling again, most of participants (75%) would resume their trips this year. People in North America are more optimistic, as 86% of travelers would resume their travels in 2020 and even 57% would consider resuming it in the next 5 months. In addition, the most voted destinations for future travel are Asia, Europe, and North America.
When would you consider to start traveling, considering your home country and destination's borders are not closed?

North America (primarily USA & Canada)
Where are you planning to go for your next trip?
Itinerary Changes
Most travelers feel optimistic and are not willing to change their itinerary, as 64% would travel to the same destinations as long as they are able to do so. The most cautious travelers would change their destinations and focus on places with good health infrastructure and/ or avoid big cities.
If you would still travel, did your itinerary change because of the current situation?
General Perception
World-wide 45% of the people feel relentless about domestic travel and, as expected, people feel less comfortable towards international travel with just 33% of people not fearful about it. Something we learned is that in North America, people feel less fearful of traveling. In both cases, international or domestic, the greatest portion of the people answered “not fearful” when asked about their perception of future travel.
From a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being least true and 7 being most true, how would you rate the following statement “my current perception in future domestic travel is fearful”.
