Planning a Danish adventure? Denmark's allure is undeniable, but before packing your bags, you may need to apply for a Denmark Schengen Visa, depending on your nationality. One of the requirements of this travel document is paying the Denmark Schengen Visa fees.

Sometimes, the visa costs are paid online, and other times at the Danish Embassy, Consulate, or application center near you. And what exactly are the Schengen Visa costs for your nationality?

In this article, we'll clarify the often contradictory information found online and provide a clear overview of the specifics of Schengen Visa costs and how to pay!

What are the Denmark Schengen Visa fees?

Numerous types of visas are available to travelers planning to travel to the Schengen Area and the exciting countries that fall within this zone.

The costs for a Denmark Schengen Visa are as follows:

Standard Denmark Schengen Visa fee € 80
Denmark Schengen Visa fee for ages 6 to 11 € 40
Denmark Schengen Visa fee for nationals covered by the Visa-facilitation agreement (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Montenegro, Serbia, and Moldova) € 35
Children under the age of 6, holders of diplomatic passports and service passports, or applicants who apply according to the EU rules on free movement Free

Even if you’re eligible for a fee exemption as mentioned in the above overview, you might still need to pay the standard €80 fee during the application process. This will be refunded to you once the Danish embassy/consulate begins processing your application and verifies your exemption status.

Please note that these fees can change over time and exclude the visa application center's administrative or processing fees. Learn more about other costs involved with applying for the Schengen Visa further in this article!

How much does the multiple-entry Schengen Visa cost?

Visas are offered for various purposes such as tourism, research, work, school, and more. Based on your travel purpose and itinerary, you may be granted a single-entry visa for the duration of your trip or a multiple-entry visa for a few years.

The visa fees for a multiple-entry visa are the same as for an ordinary, single-entry, short-stay Schengen visa, as mentioned above.

This means that even if your visa allows multiple trips of up to 90 days per entry within its validity period (typically one, three, or five years), the fees will remain the same as those for a single-entry visa. Now, that's indeed a great deal!

How to pay the Denmark Schengen Visa fees

Paying your Denmark visa fees is quite flexible. The fees must be paid during the online application process before submitting your application form.

You can use different methods, including:

  • Online payment via credit or debit card through the government application website.

  • Transfer from a Danish online bank (in Danish kroner - DKK).

  • Payment through a bank or post office using a payment form.

  • International bank transfer.

When you apply through us, you can choose between various flexible payment options, such as:

  • Debit or credit card

  • PayPal

  • Venmo

How much does it cost to extend the Denmark Schengen Visa?

Schengen Visa extensions are usually only approved in exceptional circumstances, such as medical or humanitarian emergencies.

If you wish to apply for an extension of your Denmark Schengen Visa for up to 90 days, you must pay a fee of about €30. The exact fee depends on the type of extension you're applying for.

Additional costs to keep in mind for the Denmark Schengen Visa

When budgeting for your trip, it's good to consider that there are some additional costs involved when applying for the Schengen Visa, besides the official visa fees.

Denmark Schengen Visa processing fees

If you apply for the Denmark Schengen Visa through an external service provider, such as iVisa, you’ll pay an extra fee.

This is a great investment to make the process quicker and easier, providing the following benefits over applying by yourself:

Denmark Schengen Visa administration fees at the application center

Depending on where you’re applying, you’ll submit your application and attend the interview appointment at a visa center instead of an embassy or consulate.

Often, you may have to pay an extra fee to the provider. These administration costs typically range between €40 and €60.

Denmark Schengen Visa requirement: Travel insurance

One of the requirements for getting a Schengen Visa and entering Denmark is having travel and medical insurance. This insurance must cover emergency medical expenses up to €30,000 in the entire Schengen Area.

Fortunately, most travel insurance policies meet these requirements, beginning at a mere €22 per week for your trip.

If you're a frequent globetrotter and considering getting a multiple-entry Schengen Visa, consider investing in an annual insurance plan that covers multiple trips throughout the year, saving you money and effort.

Other indirect costs for the Denmark Schengen Visa

You might face extra expenses when you need to show booked flights, accommodation, and a tour itinerary during your visa application interview.

But don't stress about breaking the bank, as many online travel sites, airlines, and travel agencies can hold a booking for free or for a small fee. This way, you can present your documentation without worrying about losing money if your visa application is rejected.

Denmark Visa fees for long stays and permanent residence

If you want to work, live, or study long-term in Denmark, you’ll need more than just a Schengen Visa. Denmark offers various options:

  • Work Visa: For those with specific skills that the Danish government considers valuable to their economy, a work visa is the key to moving to Denmark.

  • Start-up Visa: This is an excellent alternative to the work visa for someone who wishes to run their own business in Denmark and has an innovative business idea that can contribute to economic growth and create new jobs in Denmark.

  • Working Holiday Visa: Young citizens of Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, New Zealand, or South Korea can apply for a temporary Working Holiday residence permit in Denmark.

  • Student Visa: If you want to study at one of Denmark's renowned educational institutions, you must apply for a student residence and work permit.

  • Family Reunification Visa: This is a specific visa for people who have direct family living in Denmark and wish to join them.

  • Permanent Residence Permit: A permanent residence permit is granted to people living and working in Denmark on a temporary visa, such as a work visa, for the last couple of years.

  • Visa for religious workers, including accompanying family members

  • Visa for retired employees of international organizations, including accompanying family members

The fees for each visa depend on the type and length of your intended stay. Find out your preferred Denmark Visa fees and how to apply on the government website.
