Do Mexican citizens need a Denmark ETIAS?

Mexican citizens currently benefit from visa-free entry to Denmark and a range of other destinations, like the rest of the Schengen Zone, the EFTA countries, and some European microstates, as well as Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Romania.

However, a change is on the horizon. From mid-2025, Mexicans planning to visit Denmark for short stays of up to 90 days, whether for leisure, business, transit, or medical reasons, will need to apply for a Denmark ETIAS.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System, introduced to the public in 2016, aims to reinforce security within the Schengen Area. In the past, travelers from countries without a visa requirement could enter these areas with just a passport, providing limited background information. The ETIAS modifies this by implementing a more thorough pre-travel screening, thereby enhancing safety and control.

It's important to note that the ETIAS is not a visa. Rather, it operates similarly to other pre-travel authorizations like the US ESTA and the Canada eTA, which facilitate travel while ensuring security.

A major perk of the Denmark ETIAS is its comprehensive nature. With just this one authorization, you gain access to all the countries within the ETIAS system. Planning a European trip becomes more convenient, as the Denmark ETIAS serves as your single pass to various destinations.

For an overview of all the places you will be able to explore with the Denmark ETIAS, have a look at this map:
