The UEFA Euro 2020 is drawing closer, and if you plan on attending, keep in mind that there are 12 cities all across Europe that will host the matches. One of them is Budapest in Hungary, which will host four matches, on the 16th, 20th, 24th, and the 28th of June. However, if you plan on going to the UEFA Euro 2020 matches in Budapest, Hungary, a visa may be in order. The information below should be of assistance in that department.

Hungary

Hungary is a Schengen Area country, meaning that all EU and EFTA nationalities can enter the country freely. So, if you are from an EU/EFTA country, you have nothing to worry about. Just make sure to hold a valid national ID card at all times.

According to the Schengen Area visa policy, the citizens of 62 countries and territories can enter Hungary without a visa and stay for a period that cannot exceed 90 days. However, in this case, a valid passport is necessary. Moreover, the passport has to remain valid for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival.

All other nationalities that are neither visa-exempt nor from an EU/EFTA country must obtain a visa from the Hungarian embassy. But what you should know here is that you will not be applying for a Hungarian visa, but a Schengen visa. Not only will you be able to visit Hungary with it, but any other Schengen country as well.

So, if you want to attend the UEFA Euro 2020 in Budapest, Hungary, and you find out that you do need a visa to travel there, keep in mind that this type of document is not available online. However, you will be pleased to learn that an application can be submitted online. After you fill in the application and pay the fee, you are free to schedule an interview at the nearest Hungarian embassy. Make sure that you meet the requirements before you do so. You will need a passport with a minimum of 6 months of validity from the date of arrival, an airline confirmation, accommodation details, and proof of means of sustenance. In Hungary, you will have to have at your disposal at least 1000 HUF, which is the rough equivalent to 3 Euros. A letter of invitation or confirmation of accommodation is also accepted as long as it is credible.

It takes about 3 weeks for your visa application to be processed, and once it is approved, it allows you to stay in Hungary for no more than 90 days. The UEFA Euro 2020 matches do not take that long, but you can use this opportunity to visit the beautiful Hungarian capital.

In case you want to easily find out which category of travelers you are in, feel free to use iVisa's Visa Checker Tool. All you have to do is insert your country of origin in the box on the left, and then add Hungary in the box on the right. The result will let you know whether or not you need a visa.

Needless to say, if you want to attend the UEFA Euro 2020 in Budapest, Hungary, one of the first things you have to do is to check whether you need a visa. While chances are that you do not, getting a Hungarian Schengen visa is not at all a challenge.
