Do Argentine citizens need an Italy ETIAS?

Argentina's citizens have long appreciated the perk of visa-free access to Italy and other parts of Europe, making their travel experiences across these areas much simpler.

But a change is on the horizon. From mid-2025, Argentine travelers planning short visits to Italy, be it for tourism, business, or transit, will have to apply for an Italy ETIAS.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System, known as ETIAS, was first announced in 2016. Its main purpose was to strengthen security within the Schengen Zone. Up to this point, Argentine citizens, along with those from other visa-exempt countries, have been able to enter these territories using just their passports. The ETIAS introduces an additional screening step to enhance safety.

It’s key to understand that the ETIAS is not a visa. Rather, think of it as a travel permit, similar to the US ESTA or the Canada eTA. These systems are designed to uphold security while making travel more practical.

A significant advantage of the Italy ETIAS is its extensive reach. With one ETIAS, Argentine citizens can access all countries participating in the ETIAS program. This is incredibly beneficial for those wishing to visit various European countries. The Italy ETIAS simplifies your travel plans, acting as your single pass to multiple destinations.
