Japan’s visa program offers short-term visas as well as long-term visas. Short-term visas are great for people going on vacation to Japan, doing basic business functions, or who need a transit visa while passing through Japan on their way to another destination.

Japan

Long-term visas include a working visa which can be good from three months up to five years. For industry leaders with advanced degrees, you may be able to get a Highly Skilled Professional visa which lasts up to 5 years.

See below for additional requirements for all visa types as well as additional information on applying for a visa.

Basic Requirements: The Japanese e-Visa

The successive Q&A mentions the current rules and regulations of visa applications for Japan. Be sure to bookmark this page and come back in April 2020 to find out updated information on the Japanese e-Visa.

Do I need an e-Visa to go to Japan?

It varies based on your travel situation. 68 countries’ citizens can go to Japan without the need for a visa for up to 90 days including European Union country nationals. For those who will have to get a Japan visa, like many African and Middle Eastern countries, you will have to decide on the right visa for you.

If you visa-exempt but are going for a different reason besides a personal vacation, you may need to apply for an e-Visa to be able to enter Japan legally. For example, if you go to Japan for educational purposes, you're most likely going to need a visa to do so.

e-Visa Application for Japan: Information to Prepare

To apply for an e-Visa and pass through customs when you enter Japan, you will be required to have or show the following:

  • Passport - Must be valid for 6 months or more.
  • Departure Ticket - Your departing flight ticket is a valid departure ticket.
  • Hotel or Lodging Reservation - A reservation page works.
  • Color Passport Picture - Do not use a black and white one.
  • Finances for Your Trip - A certified bank statement may be required.
  • Application Payment Method - We can accept credit cards and PayPal.

Processing Speeds and Fees for e-Visas to Japan

Current processing at an embassy or a consulate may take a few weeks based on your status. At iVisa, we offer a few processing speeds for e-Visas: Standard, Rush, and Super Rush. Super Rush will get you your e-Visa the quickest.

For all processing speeds, there will be a certain fee. This fee will affect the final cost of your visa.

The Pricing of an e-Visa

Until the e-Visa program is ready, we can assume that Japanese e-Visas will cost about the same amount as the standard visas cost. Based on the choices you decide on like processing speed and reasoning, you are likely to pay between $6 and $175 USD during the application process.

Japan e-Visas: Length of Stay and Expiration Date

There is a different time constraint for each type of visa. Generally, short-term visas like tourist visas will remain valid for up to 90 days from the day you land in Japan. There are other visas that will be good beyond 90 days like a working visa.

Make sure you schedule your vacation to Japan before the visa expiry date so you can use your visa. Most e-Visas will remain valid for up to 90 days from issuance.

Once Japan's e-Visa program is initialized, iVisa will be ready to release the e-Visa online application so you can apply from your smartphone, laptop, computer or tablet in a convenient and safe manner.

Obtaining a visa shouldn't be such a long process. Bookmark this page and come back in April 2020 to get your Japan e-Visa securely and conveniently.
