Ethiopia Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

Do you need more information about the Ethiopia passport photo requirements? We expanded on a few of them below so that you can have as much information at hand as possible. After all, an inadequate passport photo is among the most common causes of rejection.

  • All you need for the right background is a white wall anywhere in your home. It must be plain white with no colors, shadows, or patterns. If you do not have one, take a white sheet and hang it on the wall. The result is the same. Lots of people do this.
  • When you take your picture, make sure to place the camera at eye level. It is the best possible position. Keep your head straight without tilting or rotating it in any direction. Portrait-style photos are always rejected because both sides of your face must be equally visible.
  • When you take your passport photo, refrain from making any facial expressions that may lead to rejection. Your appearance needs to be neutral, so do not smile, squint, frown, or raise your eyebrows. Your passport photo will be rejected if you do.
  • Keep your eyes looking straight into the camera when taking the photograph. Your hair must not cover them at all. If you have glasses, make sure that the frames do not obstruct your eyes and that the lenses do not create any glare in the picture. You cannot take your passport photo or visa photo wearing sunglasses or eyeglasses with tinted lenses.
  • When choosing the proper setting in which to take your picture, make sure that the light is not too intense or too dim. You should also select a source of light that is right in front of you so that there will be no shadows on your face.
  • Headwear is acceptable in a passport photo or visa photo, but only if your religion dictates that you should not keep your head uncovered at all times. Nevertheless, you have to make sure that the veil does not cast shadows on your face. At the same time, your face has to be visible from the top of your forehead to the bottom of your chin. No other compromise will be made.
  • If a beard is a part of your everyday look, you can keep it for your passport photo or visa photo.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

Since children need their own travel documents, you are going to have to take their pictures as well. There are no significant differences between an adult’s passport photo and a child’s passport photo except for the fact that a child’s head can occupy less space in the picture. The tips below should be of help when you want to photograph your child.

  • The child must be awake when you take his/her passport photo.
  • Hats and pacifiers must be removed because they obstruct the visibility of the facial features.
  • When taking the passport photo of a child in a car seat, you are required to place a white sheet on the backrest of the chair.
  • If you want to take the passport photo of your child while he/she lies on their back, you must place the baby on a white sheet or a white blanket. All background rules apply.
  • If you decide to hold the baby while someone takes the picture, keep in mind that only the baby can appear in the passport photo. Not even your hands can appear in the shot.
