Getting the photo right is a major part of your Moroccan visa or passport application.

When applying for a Moroccan passport or visa, the photo you submit plays a critical role. It must match the strict guidelines set out by Moroccan authorities; otherwise, your application could be delayed or even rejected.

To help you get it right, we’ve compiled all the photo requirements dictated by the Moroccan government. Keep reading to learn everything you need to take your photo correctly.

Guidelines for Moroccan passport and visa photos

If you need a Moroccan passport or visa, your photo must meet these specifications:

  • Recent photo: The photo should be taken within the last six months to accurately represent your current appearance.

  • Photo dimensions: The image should be 35mm x 45mm, with your face occupying 70-80% of the image.

  • Quality: The photo must be in color, clear, in focus, and printed on high-quality photographic paper with a print resolution of at least 600 dpi. It should also accurately show your natural skin tone.

  • Background: Use a plain background with no patterns or shadows. White, light gray, or light blue is preferred as long as there’s a contrast between your face and the background.

  • Head position: Look directly at the camera without tilting your head. Your head should be level and centered in the frame. Both sides of your face must be visible.

  • Facial expression: You should have a neutral expression with your eyes open and clearly visible and your mouth closed.

  • Lighting: Ensure the lighting is even and doesn’t cause shadows or glare on your face or the background.

  • Eyeglasses: If you need to wear glasses for medical reasons, they should not cover your eyes, which should still be clearly visible. There must be no glare on the lenses. Tinted lenses and sunglasses are not allowed.

  • Head coverings: Hats and head coverings are only allowed for religious reasons as long as they don’t create shadows on your face. Your face should still be visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of your head.

  • Hair and clothing: Wear regular clothes that stand out against the background. Religious clothing is permitted only for those who wear it daily.

Passport & visa photos for infants and children

Fill me in

The general photo requirements for children and infants are similar to those for adults, especially when it comes to photo quality, background, and head position. However, photographing young children and infants comes with unique challenges that require special attention.

  • Recent photo: Ensure the photo is taken within the last six months to reflect your child's latest appearance.

  • Eyes visibility: It's important that the child's eyes are open and visible in the photo. This may be difficult with infants, and capturing them at the right moment may take some effort. Avoid glasses unless they are needed every day for medical reasons, and ensure there's no glare on the lenses.

  • Facial expression: Adults are required to have a neutral expression, but children and especially infants are given some leeway. Still, aim for as neutral an expression as possible.

  • Clothing: Dress your child in simple, everyday outfits that don’t cover their face. Avoid hats and pacifiers. If a child wears headwear for religious purposes, their face must still be fully visible.

  • No visible support: If you need to hold the child to keep them upright, make sure that your hands or any part of your body are not showing in the picture.

  • Focus on the child: Do not use any props. The photo should only feature the child, without other people or distractions.

For infants unable to sit or stand, a photo can be taken from above while they lie on a plain background or positioned in a car seat that’s draped with a plain cloth.
