Benin Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

While general Benin passport photo specifications are listed above, we feel the need to expand on a few of them just so that you know what you are dealing with. Improper passport photos are among the most common causes for which a passport application is rejected, and we want to help you to avoid that.

  • When choosing your background, you have to be careful not to select one that may have shadows, patterns, or colors on it. That will invalidate your passport photo even if the rest of the requirements are met. If you do not have a white wall in your house, you should take a white sheet and place it on the wall. This creates an ideal setting.
  • The position of your head in your passport photo is essential. You have to keep your chin up, sit straight, and make sure not to rotate your head. You cannot tilt it either. Basically, your head must be square to the camera so that both sides of your face are equally visible.
  • The source of light you use for your passport photo should not be too bright or too dark. Place yourself in front of a source of light to get maximum visibility. However, make sure that the light does not distort your facial features due to shadows or reflections.
  • When taking the passport photo, relax your face. This ensures a neutral expression. You cannot smile, frown, or squint.
  • The eyes must be as visible as possible, so look straight into the camera during the photoshoot. If you need your glasses, you can keep them on but only if they do not cover your eyes and face. You should also keep in mind that the glare from your glasses will invalidate your passport photo. Sunglasses and tinted lenses are not allowed.
  • The only situation in which headwear is allowed is when your religion does not allow you to keep it uncovered. If that is the case, you still have to make sure that your face is visible from the top of your forehead to the bottom of your chin. The headwear should not create shadows on your face either.
  • A beard is generally accepted, but only if it is a part of your everyday look. Any changes you may want to make must be made before taking your passport photo.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa photos

Babies, toddlers, and children of all ages are required to have their own passport and visa. There are not many differences between the passport photos of an adult and the passport photos of a child, although there are a few things you may want to keep in mind.

  • The child should keep his/her eyes open during the photoshoot. That may be difficult with a newborn.
  • Remove the child’s headwear and pacifier before taking the photo.
  • If you plan on putting your child in a car seat for the picture, place a white sheet on the backrest.
  • If you want to put the baby on his/her back to take the photo from above, place the child on a white cover.
  • The baby alone must appear in the passport photo. Even if you must hold him/her, your hands should not be visible.
