Botswana Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

The specifications above cover pretty much all you need to know about the Botswana passport photo. However, we believe it is necessary to provide further explanation so that things are as clear as possible. Improper passport photos are often the cause of a rejected passport application, and we want to help you avoid that.

  • Choosing the environment in which you take your picture is crucial. You can choose to place yourself against a white wall, but if you do not have one, hanging a white sheet on the wall should do the trick. Patterns, colors, and shadows are to be avoided in a passport photo.
  • Your head should be straight at all times. Place the camera at your eye level for better exposure. Do not tilt or rotate your head while you take the photo. Do not photograph yourself from one side as portrait-style images are not accepted. Both sides of your face should be equally visible.
  • If you choose an environment with improper lighting, your passport photo will be rejected. The source of light should be in front of you so that it does not create shadows on your face that may alter some facial features. Choose a light that is not too bright or too dim.
  • You are not allowed to smile in your passport photo. Frowning and squinting are also forbidden. A neutral facial expression is desired, so relax your face during the photoshoot to achieve the best result.
  • Your eyes should look directly into the camera. They cannot be covered by anything (hair, large glasses frames). If you do have to wear your glasses when you take your photo, make sure that they are positioned correctly and do not create a glare. Sunglasses and glasses that have tinted lenses should be taken off for the passport photo.
  • As a rule, you cannot wear anything on your head when you have your passport photo taken. However, there is an exception; if you have to wear your headwear for religious purposes, you can, but you have to complete a statutory affidavit for that purpose. Even so, your face must be visible from your chin to the top of your forehead and ear to ear. Your headwear should not cast any shadows on your face.
  • You can keep your beard if it is a part of your everyday look.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

In case you plan on traveling with children, remember that they need their own passport and visa. With iVisa Photos, you can take your child’s passport photo as well. It is not a complicated task, and there are no significant particularities you have to comply with. The tips below should be of help.

  • Photographing your child in a car seat means that you have to place a white sheet on the chair’s backrest.
  • When you take a picture of a child lying down (from above), you must put a white sheet or a white blanket under him/her.
  • The child should have his/her eyes open when you take the photo.
  • If you need to hold the baby while taking a passport photo, please make sure that your hands are not in the frame. Only the baby can appear in the passport photo.
  • Remove headwear and pacifiers.
