Estonia Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

Since an improper passport photo is one of the most common causes of rejection, we want to help you avoid wasting time and energy on a new application. That is why we chose to provide further information on some of the Estonian passport photo requirements we mentioned above.

  • The background has to be white. Plain white. It cannot contain patterns, colors, or even shadows. The best thing todo is to find a white wall in your house and take your picture against it. If you do not have white walls in your home, you can use a white sheet. Just hang it on a wall and problem solved.
  • The best position for your camera is at eye level. That way, all your facial features are clearly visible. Keep in mind that both sides of your face must appear equally in the picture, so do not rotate or tilt your head in any way. Please note that portrait-style photos will be rejected.
  • The only acceptable facial expression in a passport photo or a visa photo is neutral. You are not supposed to smile, frown, squint, or raise your brows. Just relax your face when you are taking the picture.
  • It is incredibly essential that your eyes are perfectly visible. They must not be covered by anything such as your hair or the frames of your glasses. If you do have to wear glasses, take a look at the photo to make sure there is no glare in it. You are not allowed to wear sunglasses and tinted lenses in your passport photo or visa photo.
  • The light can play tricks on your face, which is why it is best if the source is right in front of you when you snap your passport photo. That way, there will be no shadows on your face. At the same time, the intensity of the light must be just right, meaning not too low or too high.
  • Headwear, as a rule, is not acceptable in a passport photo or visa photo. However, people who cover their heads for religious purposes can keep their veils. Even so, you have to make sure that your face is visible from the top of your forehead to the bottom of your chin and from one ear to the other. Also, the veil should not cast any shadows on your face.
  • If you usually have a beard, you do not have to shave it for your passport photo.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

Children are not exempt from having their own passport and visa, which is why you have to get the documents for them as well if you plan on taking them on your travels. The tips below should help you when you want to take a passport photo of a child.

  • Keep in mind that an adult’s passport photo and a child’s passport photo are quite similar. The only difference is that a child’s head will naturally occupy less surface in the picture.
  • You should take the picture while your baby is awake.
  • When you take the photo while the child is in a car seat, remember to place a white sheet on the chair’s backrest to ensure a white background.
  • When photographing your baby from above while he/she lays on their back, do not forget to put a white sheet underneath.
  • Remove pacifiers and hats before taking the picture.
  • When holding the baby for the passport photo, remember that your hands cannot appear in the picture.
