Yemen Passport Photos and Visa Photo Requirements – Rules, Guidelines, and Specifications

While taking your own passport photo or visa photo may seem an easy task, keep in mind that it is not the same as taking a selfie. There are a few guidelines in place that you have to follow in the process so that you end up with a valid picture. They are as follows:

  • The background of your passport photo or visa photo must be white. In order to achieve that, photograph yourself against a white wall or a white sheet that is not transparent. The point is that the background of your picture cannot include colors, patterns, or shadows.
  • The setting in which you want to take your photo must be appropriately lighted. For starters, the light source must be right in front of so that you eliminate the possibility of having shadows on your face. Also, make sure that the light is neither too dim nor too bright.
  • Keep your head straight and your face forward when you take your picture. Please note that you cannot enclose portrait-style photos because both sides of your face must be equally visible.
  • You are not permitted to smile in your passport photo or visa photo. In fact, the only acceptable facial expression you can adopt when you take your picture is neutral.
  • The eyes must be clearly visible in your picture. Make sure that nothing obscures them. It is recommended that you take off your eyeglasses during the photo session to avoid flash reflection. Needless to say, sunglasses or glasses with tinted lenses have no business being in your passport photo or visa photo.
  • Usually, headwear is not acceptable in a passport photo or visa photo. However, if you are bound by your religion to wear a hijab, for instance, you can keep it. Just make sure that your face is visible from top to bottom and that it does not cast shadows on your face.
  • You are under no obligation to shave your beard before taking your passport photo or visa photo unless it does not represent your everyday appearance.

Rules and Requirements for Babies, Infants, and Newborn Passport and Visa Photos

When it comes to children’s passport photos or visa photos, the rules are pretty much the same. The only difference is that a child’s head is smaller. Thus, it can take less surface area in the picture. Here are a few tips to help you out in the process of photographing your children:

  • If you have a newborn, it is best if you lay him/her on his/her back and take the photo from above. However, do not forget to put a white layer underneath the baby to achieve a white background.
  • Some people prefer to put their kids in a car seat when taking their pictures. If you want to proceed like that, you have to cover the backrest of the chair with a white sheet. That way, the background is white.
  • You cannot photograph your child while he/she is sleeping. The eyes must be visible.
  • You have to remove your child’s headwear and/or pacifier before taking the photo.
  • The child must appear in the shot alone. Even if you want to hold your baby during the photo session, no part of you can be visible.
