What are the types of Schengen visas for Chinese passport holders?

Chinese citizens can apply for 3 types of Schengen visas depending on the trip they wish to take. The types of Schengen visas are listed below:

1. Uniform Schengen Visa (USV): This visa is for people who wish to stay in one country or travel through different countries of the Schengen state. The USV is valid for 180 days, but you can only stay in Schengen countries for 90 days. This type of visa allows you 3 types of entry:

  • Single-entry visa: It will enable you to enter the Schengen area only once within 90 days of your stay. Once you leave the Schengen area, you cannot re-enter even if the 90-day stay has not expired. It is important to note that when it refers to the Schengen region, the 26 countries make up the Schengen area.
  • Double-entry visa: With this type of visa, you can leave the Schengen area and re-enter a second time if you do not exceed 90 days of stay. As with the single entry visa, once you leave the Schengen area for the second time, you cannot re-enter the Schengen area even if you have not completed the permitted length of stay.
  • Multiple-entry visa: This visa allows you to enter and leave the Schengen area as often as you wish as long as you meet the 90-day stay within a 180-day period.

2. Visa with limited territorial validity (LTV): This visa only allows you to travel to a single Schengen country. With this type of visa, you cannot enter any other country that the visa does not include. However, in some exceptional cases, you can apply for authorization to enter other Schengen countries.

3. National visa: This visa allows Chinese citizens to study or work in one of the Schengen countries but only for the duration of the activity. Once the authorized time is over, the person must return to China.

Some recommendations

  • Travel by train: One of the most comfortable ways to travel in Europe is by train. For some destinations, it is even easier than traveling by plane.
  • Make reservations in advance: Making reservations in advance gives you more chances to find space in hotels and airline tickets. And you can find better prices.
  • Cash: It is always convenient to have a few euros in your wallet to pay for a cab or to give a tip, and there are even specific places where they only accept cash.
  • Bottle of water: When you travel, you want to make the most of your time visiting different places; a bottle of water in your backpack will help you not to get dehydrated.
  • Umbrella: It is always handy to carry a small umbrella; you never know when an unexpected rain will fall.
