What are the different types of Schengen visas?
The Schengen visa is a short-term visa that allows you to visit several countries in the area. You'll need to apply for other types of visas, such as work permits or student visas, at the embassy of the country where you wish to study, if that is the purpose of your visit.
There are different types of visas, depending on your travel needs. For example, the type A, C, B, and D. Let’s learn more about them:
- Type A visas - These are also known as airport transit visas. Airport transit visas allow holders to stay inside the airport but not to leave to visit the country.
- Type C visas - Short-stay visas allow the holder to stay in the entire Schengen area for up to 90 days per visit. These are the most popular type of visas.
Type C visas, on the other hand, are subdivided into three types:
- Single-entry - You may only enter the Schengen area once.
- Double entry - You can only enter the Schengen area twice.
- Multiple entries - You may enter and leave the Schengen area as many times as you want during the validity of the visa.
On the other hand, some visas have limited territorial validity, but these are not as common. In some cases, this type of visa is processed for humanitarian purposes.
In this case, we have two types of visas:
- Type B visas - Transit visas are documents that allow holders to move within the Schengen area. However, these are almost entirely replaced by Type C visas.
- Type D visas - A long-stay visa is also known as a residence permit. It allows you to live, study or work in the Schengen area for a period of more than 90 days. Like type C, it may be single-entry or multiple-entry.

Do minors need a Schengen Visa?
Children also need a Schengen Visa; however, the parents must process their visas first. The parents must submit copies of their passports and a notarized letter signed by the parents or tutor if the child travels alone.
Best time to visit the Schengen area
The favorite seasons for travel are always spring and fall. Temperatures are usually around 7° to 18° in southern Europe, 4° to 15° in central Europe, and a few degrees lower in the north or in mountainous areas.
When you travel at this time, there are fewer tourists in the countries you visit and therefore fewer queues at the main attractions. Prices are also lower than in the summer, but we always recommend booking in advance.
This is the perfect time to visit the main capitals of the continent such as Paris, Rome or London, to take advantage of fewer people and better weather.
Spring is also the perfect time to visit some destinations in Central Europe, such as Amsterdam, Vienna, Brussels, Bruges, Munich, or Berlin, because winter is too cold to walk around.
On the other hand, autumn is the perfect time to visit destinations such as Tuscany in Italy, the Loire Valley in France, or the Romantic Road in Germany.
COVID-19 requirements or restrictions
Each member state can decide whether to grant entry to citizens of other countries based on the country's restrictions. Before traveling, ensure you know the entry requirements of the country you plan to visit. It's essential to be fully vaccinated before you travel because many countries will deny entry to anyone who is not vaccinated.
The European Medical Association has approved Comirnaty by Pfizer-BioNTech, Spikevax by Pfizer-BioNTech, Vaxzevria by Pfizer-BioNTech, and Janssen by Johnson & Johnson. The association has also accepted the entry of travelers with vaccines used in an emergency by the World Health Organization, such as Covishield and Sinopharm.
Please note that these countries use a different system than the one used in Nigeria to identify areas at risk. As a result, recommendations for travel restrictions are now based on the risk posed by an individual traveler rather than an entire region.
