FLOATING BLED
Bled is the name of the natural island and the small town located in the northwestern part of Slovenia near Austria’s border located 50 kilometers from Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city that floats on Lake Bled surrounded by the Julian Alps. It is one of the best places to visit in Slovenia, especially for couples on their honeymoon or wedding anniversary. The main attractions are Bled Castle, the oldest medieval castle of Slovenia found perched on a cliff, and, of course, Lake Bled which offers several leisure activities such as swimming, fishing, rowing, hiking, and cycling. There’s also the option to walk the 6km long trail around the lake.
Getting to Bled is a romantic adventure. You need to hop on a Pletna, a traditional wooden boat with a flat bottom. After boarding, the trained oarsman will row while you enjoy the fairytale scenery around you. These rides leave every 45 minutes from different starting points around the lake.
Another great site you should not miss is the Church of the Mother of God on the Lake reachable by climbing a staircase of 100 steps.
