In South Korea, you can look out over North Korea at the border. This area is known as the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and it is a four-kilometre wide and 250 long seat belt that divides the two Koreas. This barrier, a symbol of the Cold War, flanked on both sides by anti-tank structures, electrified fences, land mines and troops ready to go into combat, is a sinister place where tension is palpable. However, it is also a prominent tourist attraction, with several observation points that allow you to look out over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). It is an unmissable visit for history lovers and collectors of original and disturbing experiences. You will feel the most palpable tension in the Joint Security Area (JSA) that was built after the 1953 armistice to host the peace talks.

It is formed of seven circuits. The circuits start with an exhibition by US or Korean military guides at Camp Bonifas, the joint camp of both countries, located outside the limits of the DMZ. Then another bus transfers visitors to the JSA. In its blue conference room, which sometimes hosts official meetings, the table microphones do not stop recording at all times, while South Korean soldiers stand guard inside and outside. At a distance, their North Korean counterparts keep a close watch.
